Cloud computing has revolutionized modern computing world by providing scalable and cost-ffective services. However, the openness and distribution of cloud computing makes it susceptible to various cyber-attacks such as DDoS, botnets, phishing and zero-day exploits. Conventional intrusion detection systems have difficulty handling the large-scale and dynamic cloud traffic, leading to low detection accuracy and high false positive rates. In this paper we propose a Machine Learning based Intrusion Detection System for cloud environments. The proposed model employs feature selection techniques to eliminate redundant data and increases the computational efficiency. We use Random Forest and Support Vector Machine classifiers to build a robust detection system that can detect both known and unknown attacks. The model performance was evaluated on benchmark datasets such as NSL-KDD and CICIDS2017. The experimental results show that the proposed system has high detection accuracy (above 98%), and improves the precision and recall, and decreases the false alarm rates. The outcomes reveal that Machine Learning based IDS can significantly improve cloud security and offer scalable solutions for the modern cyber threats.
KEYWORDS
In this document, a Machine Learning-driven Intrusion Detection System (IDS) tailored for cloud computing environments has been introduced to tackle the increasing security issues linked to cloud infrastructure. The system employed feature selection methods and classification algorithms, including Random Forest and Support Vector Machine, to effectively identify malicious activities. Experimental findings indicated that the proposed model attained high accuracy, enhanced detection rates, and minimized false alarm rates in comparison to conventional IDS methodologies. The research emphasizes the significance of incorporating Machine Learning methodologies into intrusion detection systems to improve their capacity to identify both recognized and unrecognized attacks. The application of feature selection additionally enhanced system efficiency by minimizing data complexity and processing duration. Among the assessed models, Random Forest demonstrated exceptional performance, rendering it an appropriate option for cloud-based IDS implementations.
