The Isha Upanishad occupies a central position in Indian philosophical thought by presenting a synthesis of spirituality and worldly engagement. Sri Aurobindo's interpretation of the text offers a distinctive understanding of the relationship between the Absolute, the individual self, and human action. This paper examines the concept of Divine Personality as expounded in the third movement of the Isha Upanishad and analyzes its role in justifying action within the world. Through textual analysis, the study explores the notions of Ishwara, the immutable and active Brahman, and the triadic principles of Kavi, Manishi, and Paribhu. The paper argues that Sri Aurobindo reconciles transcendence and immanence, thereby providing a philosophical foundation for spiritual action without attachment.
KEYWORDS
Sri Aurobindo's interpretation of the Isha Upanishad presents a profound synthesis of metaphysics and practical spirituality. The Divine Personality, Ishwara, is both transcendent and immanent, immutable and active. This dual conception provides a philosophical basis for action without attachment and establishes the harmony of spiritual realization and worldly participation. The study demonstrates that the Isha Upanishad offers a vision in which human beings can attain liberation while actively engaging with life. Sri Aurobindo's exposition thus remains highly relevant for contemporary discussions on spirituality, ethics, and human development.
