Abstract
This paper examines the eco-spiritual themes in Anuradha Roy's novels, focusing on the complex interplay between nature and humanity as central elements of her narratives. Through a detailed analysis of key works such as The Folded Earth and Sleeping on Jupiter, the study reveals how landscapes are not merely settings but dynamic characters that profoundly influence the emotional and spiritual journeys of the protagonists. The exploration highlights the symbolic meanings of various natural elements and their role in shaping character development, illustrating how the environment reflects internal struggles and transformations. Moreover, this research delves into the spiritual and emotional connections that character’s forge with their surroundings, emphasizing the significance of these relationships in fostering a sense of belonging and identity. The consequences of environmental neglect are poignantly depicted, revealing the emotional toll that ecological degradation takes on both individuals and communities. In advocating for ecological responsibility, Roy’s narratives serve as a powerful call to action, urging readers to reconsider their relationship with the natural world and to embrace stewardship as a vital aspect of human experience. By weaving personal narratives with broader ecological concerns, Roy not only deepens the reader's engagement with environmental issues but also underscores the interconnectedness of all living beings. The paper posits that eco-spiritual narratives like Roy's are crucial in contemporary discourse, fostering a greater awareness of our responsibilities toward the planet and inspiring action for sustainability. Ultimately, this study highlights the transformative power of nature in shaping human experiences, advocating for a renewed appreciation of the sacredness of the environment.
